Teddy bears have been part of American culture for a 100 years. The toy owes it's nickname to our 26th President. On a 1902 hunting trip, Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear tied to a tree.A cartoon in the Washington Post immortalized the incident. Soon after, Brooklyn store owner Morris Michtom asked the president for permission to call stuffed bears "Teddy's Bears". The rest is history.
