Canada’s second international stamp exhibition, CAPEX – CAnadian Philatelic EXhibition – marked the country’s 100th anniversary of joining the Universal Postal Union (UPU).  The event was sponsored by the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada.  It was the most significant philatelic exhibition in the country at that time!  .

Several countries issued stamps at CAPEX, including the US.  In fact, CAPEX ’78 marked the first time the US issued a souvenir sheet in another country.  It was for sale in Canada a month before it was available in the States.  Canada also issued its first souvenir sheet for the stamp show…
