Comedian and Honorary Veteran?
The first stamp I looked at celebrates funnyman Bob Hope. The USPS honored this entertainer and patriot on a 20-stamp sheet with neat photos in the selvage. Looking at them reminds me Bob was best-loved for bringing our troops a bit of comfort and home with his corny routines – often in the most dangerous places. Bob was told when he tried to enlist during WWII that he could help more by continuing to entertain the troops. And so he did – for the next 50 years! Congress even made Bob an honorary veteran for his service “from World War II to the Persian Gulf War.” |
