On
June 14, 1777, Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as
the flag of the United States. In 1949, President Harry S. Truman
signed an act of Congress officially making June 14 National Flag Day.
This was after many years of campaigns to establish the holiday,
dating back to the Civil War era!
