SCOTT #3332 UNIVERSAL POSTAL UNION

On October 9, 1874, Universal Postal Union (UPU) was established by 22 countries.  The UPU is the organization that sets the rules for the flow of mail between countries.  Since it was formed, the UPU has worked to connect every person, regardless of nationality, through a safe, efficient, and orderly mail system.

In 1947, the UPU became a specialized agency of the United Nations and began holding conventions every five years.  Today, 192 member states have joined the Universal Postal Union.
