     Coral reefs are formed by small sea animals. In life, these animals give the coral its color, and in death, their limestone shells create rock-like formations. It is in this fashion that coral reefs build up, and over time grow.

SCOTT #1633-82 BICENTENNIAL STATE FLAGS 13 CENT

     Issued as part of the ongoing Bicentennial celebration, the 13 cent State Flags pane was a first in US postal history. This was the first time a pane with 50 face-different stamps was issued. Each state is represented by it's official flag, with the stamps arranged in the order each state was admitted into the Union.

SCOTT 1238 CITY MAIL DELIVERY 5 CENT

     The 5 cent City Mail Delivery stamp was issued for the 100th anniversary of Congress authorization of free mail delivery in cities with a population of 20,000 or greater.
     Artwork by Norman Rockwell portraying a city letter carrier is featured on the stamp.

SCOTT #1127 NATO 4 CENT

     NATO (North American Treaty Organization) was formed in 1950. The purpose of the alliance was to provide a common military defense for all member nations against possible aggression from the former Soviet Union and other Eastern European countries. Today, in addition to providing a cooperative defense against foreign aggression, the goals of NATO include developing international cooperation, crisis support, peacekeeping, and disaster relief.

SCOTT #C76 MOON LANDING 10 CENT

     On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong followed by Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, became the first man to stand on the Moon. As Armstrong stepped out of the Apollo II lunar module, the Eagle, he spoke the famous words, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Later, Armstrong commented to Aldrin, "It has a stark beauty all its own. It's like much of the high desert in the United States, It's different, but it's very pretty out here."

SCOTT #5252-53 HOCKEY PLAYERS 49 CENT

     In 2017, the USPS collaborated with the Canada Post on this joint issue honoring the 100th anniversary of the National Hockey League.
     Hockey grew in popularity in the late 1800"s leading to the formation of professional leagues, including the NHL in 1917. over the years, various leagues merged or folded leaving the NHL as the only professional hockey league in 1926.
