1866 ABRAHAM LINCOLN 15 CENT BLACK SCOTT #77

One year after President Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at the Ford Theater in Washington, a 15 cent black stamp was issued to honor Lincoln"s memory. The stamp has been hailed as the first mourning stamp ever produced.
This well known 1866 stamp is based on a photograph of President-elect Lincoln. It was taken by C.S. German in 1861, shortly before Lincoln was inaugurated.
